Black Statues In Budapest + Interview
While riding on the tram through Budapest I stumbled upon this sculpture in the window and immediately wanted to know the history of it, so I reached out to the My Map Of Budapest Instagram account who linked me to Daniel Cochran from the famous Instagram account, Statues Of Budapest.
Two years later I ran into Daniel at the Black Lives Matter Budapest Protest and we got to talking about this new movement and our shared love for Budapest. He went on to tell me that he found another statue of a black man in Budapest and the love story was not only beautiful but also tragic. Check out the story below.
We knew that we had to collaborate, and I suggest that we would go live on Instagram and talk about the Black Lives Matter Movement in Budapest and our love for statues! Match made in heaven.
Here is the interview!
While we didn’t touch on the topic of statues in Budapest that clearly depict black people as servants, slaves, or prisoners, I question the history as it’s not really talked about? The comments on this post give an interesting perspective of this statue.
Don’t forget to check out these two statues while in Budapest and follow Statues Of Budapest on Instagram!
