Best Budapest Group Tours with Urban Adventures
Looking to join group tours that aren’t stuffy and boring? Meet some cool travelers or locals like myself and gain some knowledge about Budapest? Well, you don’t have to look any further.
Urban Adventures is one of the top tour companies in the world, with a wide variety of tours offered right here in Budapest. These walking tours also have a real bang for their buck.
With so many awesome tours to choose from, I decided to take the “Bites & Sites Walking Tour” where I was accompanied by my husband, and then I also opted to take the “Fine Wine & Ruin Bar Tour” with my friend Devon. Both tours were 4 hours long and well worth it. With various stops along the route, I also learned so much about the city I live in.
Bites & Sites Tour
My husband and I were so excited to join the Bites & Sites Walking tour which was lead by Ange who was an upbeat and easy-going tour guide with a French-Hungarian accent. We met in front of the Grand Market Hall. This hall is also a must-see in Budapest. The tour started promptly on time. So don’t be late!
The group was a cool mix of people which included solo travelers, buddy backpackers, and the cute old couple who had the best one-liners. We started at the deli and tried various amounts of cured meats. Then we wandered to various stalls were we discussed the famous spice Paprika that you find in almost every Hungarian dish. Before we headed out on our adventure we all tried pogácsa which are kind of like a Hungarian version of mini biscuits. YUMMMM!!!
From there we whined down the beautiful streets where I learned some history about the city, that I’d never heard before. That’s what I love about this place, so much information to keep you wanting more. Now I don’t want to give away all of the locations as that is exactly what I loved about the tour… not knowing what was next. We had sweet treats, Hungarian wine, Hungarian cuisine and so much more! We had a bite of something here, and then a bite, of something there, and then a bowl of soup here, and mini entree here….. by the end I was stuffed. Literally full. Which was great because we finished up at exactly dinner time. which meant I didn’t have to buy dinner. It was great.
I really feel like this was a full-service tour and one I will be recommending to all who ask. You get to eat all the Hungarian traditional food, and street food as well as see the city and learn a thing or two.
FIne Wine & Ruin Bars
Later that week, my girlfriend Devon and I embarked on a 4 hour Fine Wine & Ruin Bar tour which started in the rain. Oh joy, a walking tour in the rain! The clouds cleared up after our first stop and it turned out to be an awesome night! Our tour guide was Fanni and she was knowledgable, personable, and adorable. The group also included a handsome solo traveler, mom & daughter team, and another cute older couple. Let’s just say we were all ready to get our drank on!
We started in the city center at Akvárium where we sipped on Fröcs which is the Hungarian version of a wine spritzer. We learned about why Hungarians started drinking these drinks, and the 100 different ways you can order it. We strolled through the streets of the Jewish District which is the heart of the nightlife in Budapest.
Again I don’t want to spoil the fun as I had a great time discovering these new places with the group. As promised we visited several locations and enjoyed fine wines and ruin bars. The biggest surprise was with every other drink there was a yummy snack to keep us all going. From delicious hummus to goulash and so much more. We also learned a lot about the city and its history as well.
Special touches made for a great experience. For instance, at the end of both tours, the guides jotted down notes of things we wanted to learn more about and followed up in an email. I got recipes, cool places to visit and soooo much more!
I’m not a fan of taking tours in general but with Urban Adventures they changed my mind. I created memories with my husband and my friend that will last a lifetime. As there moto stated… it truly was “The Best Day Ever.”
